Overseas clients: Please Contact us (info@microfossilresearch.com) before sending samples from outside New Zealand - soil/sediment samples must be irradiated before sending, and we need to email you instructions for treatment and packaging
Our pricing is broken down into four broad categories:-
Analysis of plant microfossils in archaeological deposits, per sample (Note: prices are for reports involving two or more samples; add 20% for one sample reports):
e.g. middens, soils, stone structures, habitation surfaces, ovens/hearths, tools, potsherds, coprolites, latrines, gut contents, dental calculus
- pollen and spores:
- at least 100 counted, slides scanned and types not recorded in count noted
- phytoliths:
- at least 100 counted, slides scanned and types not recorded in count noted
- starch and other plant material:
- starch grains, calcium oxalate crystals, xylem, etc. - presence/absence noted
-
Cost per sample:
-
- All three analyses:
- NZ-based clients 660 NZD; US-based clients 555 USD; Australia-based clients 755 NZD
All three analyses per sample are strongly recommended because the three types of microfossils have differential preservation, and different species of plants have differential production of these microparts. (For only one or two of these three analyses Contact us for a quote.)
Photomicrography is included in the cost if results are to be incorporated in a journal article to be submitted for peer-reviewed publication with the analyst as a co-author. This is carried out upon receipt of the draft article. Photomicrography for other work, including theses and dissertations, is carried out for an additional cost depending on the amount of photomicography required.
- Recommended sample size:
- approx. matchbox-size (can be smaller if necessary)
-
Pollen analysis of sediment profiles from wetlands to provide progressive vegetational/environmental histories:
Contact us for a quote – this will depend on the number of samples
- Recommended minimum sample size:
- 1-5cc — the larger volume required for less organic samples (e.g. sandy)
-
